What is Sunder Media?

When meeting new people at industry events, there tends to be a lot of confusion about Sunder Media. My blog is here and all that resides on the main domain is a minimal site about web design. In an effort to clear things up a bit, here’s an explanation of what Sunder Media is.

Sunder Media was an idea that started in college. A few friends and I wanted to try a few new ideas out. The first of which was the now defunct Internet Tincan, which was followed by a few other small projects. We wanted to make it more official, so we came up with the name Sunder Media, and registered as an LLC.

Since then, Sunder has become less of a business and more of a vehicle for experimentation. We’ve done some contract work to pay hosting and software costs and done a few small sites, but mostly it’s a way for us to work on new ideas. When we have an idea, we try it out. If it fails, it’s not a big deal because we’re not relying on it.

Over the next few months, we’re going to be rebuilding the Sunder Media site. My goal is to share some of the projects we’ve been working on and provide a resource for education about web design and development. We’re also going to be making most of our current projects open-source so that other people might be able to use them and expand them.

So, keep an eye out for new stuff on SunderMedia.com over the next few months. Hopefully we can spread the tinkering spirit around a bit.
