I Guess I asked for it.

Well, I posted about Microsoft not being that bad and now I may have to retract that.

Today the Office 2007 SP1 update came out, which means I’m posting this from my work machine not my laptop. The update crippled Outlook. Everytime I try to view a Rich Text or HTML e-mail, the system crashes. I tried to uninstall the service pack, and Vista won’t let me. I tried to contact Microsoft support, and despite having a MSDN Pro subscription, they won’t talk to me without shelling out $49 first.

After a few hours, I gave up. I decided to install Thunderbird. Unfortunately, whatever is preventing Outlook from functioning also seems to be killing Thunderbird. After some research, it looks like several of my applications (Trillian, Thunderbird, Word, Excel, Outlook and more) are dead thanks to Office 2007 SP1.

Thanks for returning the compliment Microsoft. If only your support was as good as your developer tools, I would be in a much better mood.

Try a repair at all? option in the office installer/updater I think, that’s all my roomie had for a suggestion if you haven’t already fixed it that is

Nope, repair just led to another error. I finally tried uninstall/reinstall, but the re-install failed.

Now I have to track down my office install disk.
