SXSW OpenFormat

By ian

A while ago, I mentioned that Kelley, Shimon and I were working on something for SXSW. It’s already been mentioned on the SXSW site, but I wanted to take the time to talk about it a bit here on the blog.

SXSW OpenFormat was an idea that we worked with Hugh Forrest from SXSW to come up with. The event borrows elements from Ignite and BarCamp events and will be focused on giving new ideas and new people a chance to get some time on the SXSW stage. OpenFormat will run in the afternoon on Sunday, Monday and possibly Tuesday if there’s enough interest. It will be composed of a series of sessions that anybody can sign up to present at via a web application or at OpenFomat.

The sessions will be 15 minutes long and we will have a laptop, projector and stage all setup. Any topic is ok, whether it’s a new idea, a call to action, a response to one the SXSW sessions or anything you want to talk about for 15 minutes. We’re trying it out for this year and if all goes well, we may be able to expand it.

So, start putting some ideas togehter for presentations if you’re going to be at SXSW.

Also, if you’re interested in helping to beta test the scheduling application (codename: OpenFormatron), let me know.

Hey Ian - when are you heading to sxsw? Shoot me an email, let’s meet up in Austin.

Hi Ian,

How are you handling the sign up for this? Is it just a show-up kind of thing? This was brought to my attention just last night as I was in the process of organizing something similar but less formal.

Thanks!
